Installation
Learn how to install SheetMagic and get your API keys
Prerequisites
Before installing SheetMagic, make sure you have:
- A Google account
- Access to Google Sheets
- An API key from at least one AI provider (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, OpenRouter, or Straico)
Installing SheetMagic
Open Google Sheets
Go to sheets.google.com and create a new spreadsheet or open an existing one.
Access Extensions Menu
Click on Extensions in the top menu bar, then select Add-ons → Get add-ons.
Search for SheetMagic
In the Google Workspace Marketplace, search for "SheetMagic" and click on the SheetMagic add-on.
Install the Add-on
Click Install and grant the necessary permissions when prompted.
Launch SheetMagic
After installation, go to Extensions → SheetMagic → Open SheetMagic to launch the sidebar.
Getting API Keys
SheetMagic requires an API key from at least one AI provider. Here's how to get one:
Create an OpenAI Account
Go to platform.openai.com and sign up or log in.
Create a New Key
Click Create new secret key, give it a name, and copy the key.
Add Credits
Add credits to your account under Billing to use the API.
Supported Features:
- Text generation (GPT-5, GPT-4o, o1, o3)
- Image generation (DALL-E 3)
- Vision analysis (GPT-4o)
- Text-to-speech (11 voices)
- Video generation (Sora 2)
Create an Anthropic Account
Go to console.anthropic.com and sign up.
Create a New Key
Click Create Key and copy your API key.
Add Credits
Add credits under Billing to start using the API.
Supported Features:
- Text generation (Opus 4.5, Sonnet 4.5, Haiku 4.5)
- Long context (200K tokens)
- Strong reasoning capabilities
Get API Key
Click on Get API Key → aistudio.google.com/app/apikey.
Create a New Key
Click Create API key and copy your key.
Supported Features:
- Text generation (Gemini 2.5 Pro, Flash)
- Image generation (Imagen 4)
- Video generation (Veo 3)
- Free tier available (Flash-Lite)
- 1M token context window
Create an OpenRouter Account
Go to openrouter.ai and sign up.
Create a New Key
Click Create Key and copy your API key.
Add Credits
Add credits to use paid models.
Supported Features:
- 100+ models from 15+ providers
- Single API key for all models
- Free tier models available
- Automatic failover
Create a Straico Account
Go to platform.straico.com and sign up.
Copy API Key
Find your API key in the settings and copy it.
Purchase Credits
Buy credits to use the various models.

- Image generation (DALL-E, Flux, Ideogram)
- Video generation (Veo, Runway)
- Audio generation (ElevenLabs)

Configuring Your API Key
Once you have an API key:
Open SheetMagic Settings
In Google Sheets, go to Extensions → SheetMagic → Settings.
Select Provider
Choose your AI provider from the dropdown menu.
Enter API Key
Paste your API key in the appropriate field.
Save Settings
Click Save to store your configuration.
Verifying Installation
Test that SheetMagic is working correctly:
=AITEXT("Say hello!")If you see an AI-generated response, you're all set!
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, check these common problems:
